Bo Parfet

I was introduced to Bo Parfet through my colleague and friend, Greg Voisen. Greg and I have worked on a number of projects, and this one was the most interesting and involved thus far.

Bo is an extreme sports enthusiast and mountaineer who climbed the Seven Summits––K2, Everest, etc. During his treks, which he initially outlined in his first book, Die Trying: One Man’s Quest to Conquer the Seven Summits, Bo a real estate development expert, husband, and father and  accumulated vast amounts of wisdom and realized how the lessons he learned during his mountineering adventures could be applied to other areas of life.

During the process, Greg and I interviewed Bo, getting his insights on commitment, risks, failing, and so much more. We also interviewed over twenty leadership and extreme sports experts, such as Kenton Cool, Elizabeth Gould, Eric Weinhenmayer, April Rinne, Nate Klemp,  Alison Levine, Doug Holladay, and many others.

We collaborative created The Precipice of Life: Leadership and Personal Growth Insights from a Mountaineer’s Edge, where Bo Parfet creates powerful connections between the experience, knowledge, and wisdom he gained while climbing the world’s tallest mountains––the Seven Summits––and circumstances in his personal and professional life.

“Parfet shares stories from his expeditions and other areas of his life, including devastating life events that almost destroyed Parfet and everything and everyone close to him. These profound exempla show how adversity, challenges, and even failures can be overcome with a growth mindset, the support of close friends and colleagues, and surrender to a power higher than oneself.

Parfet guides his readers through a variety of themes, including:

  • Curiosity and Commitment
  • Falling is not Failing
  • Grit, Risk, and Perseverance
  • Leadership & Mentoring
  • The Gift of Letting Go
  • Claiming Happiness
  • Success to Significance–-Leaving a Legacy, and more.

“He also weaves the wisdom of thought leaders who have their own stories of growth and perseverance.

“Raw, real, and humble –– The Precipice of Life: Leadership and Personal Growth Insights from a Mountaineer’s Edge is a must-read for anyone seeking a deeper connection with themselves, enhanced relationships, and more impact and influence in the world.”

We had a lot of fun in the process. Greg and I traveled to Boulder, Colorado to gather some important insights from Bo, and after 10 hours of conversation we had what we needed to complete the project.

During a lunch break, Greg and I walked to a local market and who do we run into? Alex Weber, author of  Fail Proof: Become the Unstoppable You and a competitor on American Ninja Warrior. Alex’s wisdom is also woven into The Precipice of Life!
