Krista Helman

Somewhere over the rainbow…

Krista Helman and I were introduced by our mutual friend, Stacey Kirkpatrick, whom I worked with during the writing of her book, Milk and Cookies: A Memoir of Childhood Sexual Abuse. Krista’s goal was to write a book about healing grief and trauma over the loss of a pet. And that she did.

Over the Rainbow: The Love, Loss, and Legacy of Your Dog is a self-help book about the grief and mourning we experience when our beloved companions cross the rainbow bridge. “For many people, the loss of a dog is just as painful, if not more, than the loss of a human loved one,” says Helman. “I recognized this personally after losing Aura. Over the Rainbow addresses this loss and validates the reader’s pain.” She also believes that the connection to our loved ones never dies and offers hope for that connection to be rekindled.

Krista, a trauma therapist, didn’t consider writing a book about the loss of a pet until a wave of clients came to her struggling with grief over the passing of their beloved fur babies. Their stories triggered her personal grief around the death of Aura, whom she considered her heart dog, and set her on a path to research why we grieve the passing of our pets and how to heal. And as a result, she also founded the Trauma and Grief Institute in Ottawa, Canada.

Over the Rainbow and the accompanying Self-Care Moments workbook can be found at Amazon, Apple Books, Google Books, and other book outlets. For more about Krista and her work, visit kristahelman.com
